Every year there is a GATE field trip for GATE students. This year the PTSA has debated whether we go to the Catalina Island Marine Institute or to an Astro Camp, but yet again like last year we are going to CIMI. The institute is located on Catalina Island at Toyon Bay. It is a little like camping except with a lot more academic qualities and dorms. In this wild experience we had a boat ride that was two hours long, went on several hikes, snorkeling, rock climbing, and in the midst of all of the adventures we took a lot of pictures. We did however, have morning, afternoon, and night-programs. We had about thirty to an hour worth of free time after every meal or activity, which is when we could take a walk down to the beach, go on a hike, play games, or just relax in your dorms.
The meals were very delicious and consist of vegetarian and normal food. They had tons of options like eggs, bacon, waffles, corn dogs, french fries, tacos, salad, ravioli, spaghetti, burritos, bagels, scones, and so much more. Instructors that worked at CIMI had to live at Toyon bay all year long and were extremely kind and trustworthy. They make you feel like you have known them your whole life. The instructors that taught for J. H. Hull and Magruder were Leah, Shannon, Lindsey, and Emily. Even though this trip was two hundred forty dollars, I would recommend it if you are in GATE.
