International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is a holiday that is, well, pretty self-explanatory. It is a day where women’s rights really go into focus. This holiday has been going on since the early 1900’s and is performed on March 8. Since this event is international, every country all over the world participates. Many events happen throughout the world, but the countries that celebrate the most are Australia, Canada, India, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America. First is the U.K. with 301 events, then it’s Australia with 136 events, next is the U.S.A with 127 events, following is Canada with 98 events, and last, but certainly not least is India with 26 events. One of the events in the U.S.A. is a convention in Los Angeles, California that includes celebrities, speakers, live entertainment, networking, vendors, prizes, chocolate and many more International Women’s Day festivities.

There are many focus areas for this holiday such as, violence against women, peace and security, leadership and participation, economic empowerment, human rights, and national planning and budgeting. No one really expects it, but women are a prime importance in society; especially for business and economics. We can only celebrate this holiday, however, we cannot stop everything. Although that is true let’s embrace International Women’s Day as a holiday we won’t forget! Spread the word!
