Mr. Porush’s Spring Concert a Smashing Success

            Do you like concerts? Or, just relaxing to good music?  On April 29th, students and family were treated to the best performance of the year by Magruder’s bands and chorus at the Armstrong Theater.  And for those who couldn’t make it, oh do we have the scoop for you! We have all DSC_0262the events and students from Magruder who participated.


The Magruder Middle School and Friends Spring Concert was on Tuesday, April 29, at 7:00pm. It began with the pledge of allegiance, then a welcome by our principal, Mr. Sheck. Then the concert kicked in with the beginning band. They performed Red Book Medley, Trumpet Voluntary, and Montego March. The advanced band joined them to perform Rockin Rondeau, Mayan Dawn and Aztec Sunrise. After that, the advanced band performed Copper Creek March, Call to Valor, 21 Guns, Fire Dance, Northpointe Fantasy, and Dark Knight.DSC_0264


After that, there was a small intermission. PTSA sold concessions in the lobby, including hot pizza!. The music started up again with  the talented North Torrance Elementary School Ukuleles, which included the following schools: Arlington, Carr, Edison, Lincoln, and Yukon. They performed Lovely Hula Hands, Stand By Me, and the Breakfast Song. Glen Kamida was the director.

After the elementary schools performed, the Chorus of Magruder began singing, DSC_0301accompanied on piano by Jose Molina. They sang Solfege Song, Bist Du Bei Mir, Seasons of Love, Rainbow Connection, California Dreamin’, Pompeii, and Wind Song. Then there was a surprise song to Mr. Sheck for his birthday when they found out.

Now, I bet you’re wondering who performed? Well, we also have that list of names. So, these are the students who performed in the advanced band: Liam Abe, Kevin Bautista, Esther Cash, Ryan Cho, Isaiah Guajardo, Courvoisier Hopkins, Ramzy Issa, Hannah Joh, Drake Konishi, Danson Ma, Saffron MacDonald, Daniel Mancaruso, Rita Nguyen, Bryan Russell, Matthew Shelden,  and Brandon Takahashi.DSC_0296

For beginning band, there was: Andrew Benton, Carrie Billy, Annie Cho, Daylon Cooper, Katherine Hanakeawe, Jason Jitsiripol, Doyup Kwon, Yadira Lopez, Michael Lozano, Sean Magna, Nickolas Mann, Michi Mao, Anjelize Martinez, Rebecca Mizusawa, Parham Nojoumian, Cameron Padgett, Angela Penales, Calvin Sanchez, Anthony Vieyra, Harrison Ward, Sadie Wells, and Jacob Wong. Those are all the members of the Magruder Band.DSC_0294


But, we can’t forget about the chorus! The chorus performers were: Grayson Abrahams, Arturo Alvarez, Sara Clark, Daniella Fassnacht, Aandrea Fiallo, Ethan Gandia, Kennedy Geesey, Alex Gomez, Janae Hirai, Sierra Hocanson, Madison Mejia, Jessica Nowak, Kevin James Octavo, Matthew Perez, Melina Rios, Angel Ruiz, Rafael Sanchez, Kevin Tao, Amanda Thoma-Vital, Leilani Thorsen, and Amir Zein. These are the talented artists that performed during the Magruder Spring Concert!DSC_0279

A big round of applause goes to Mr. Porush and his students for putting on a successful and delightful performance! We also appreciate Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Spellman for behind the scenes support and selling snacks for Magruder!
