Magruder’s 2011 Clothing Drive

Magruder’s 2011 Clothing Drive

By Lesley Saldana and Irene Morales, staff writers

What happened from February 28 to March 4? For those that don’t know, it was Magruder’s Annual clothing drive. Yes, the Service Club held a clothing drive, one of the many community volunteer service projects sponsored by Mrs. Smith. All students had to do was to donate gently used clothes items no longer wanted. Our goal for this year was to collect 1,500 items. But thanks to the students and  parents of Magruder we doubled it. Instead of just 1,500 items, we collected more than 3,100 items! Great job Mustangs! The winning class with the top items collected won a pizza party and the whole school got an iPod /Camera Day! All the clothes collected went to the charity Planet Aid and it will help people in Central America and Asia.

The top three classes were Mrs. Peterson in third place with 600 items, in second place, Mrs. Yung with 695 items and Mrs. Jaeger in first place with 878 items. Students were very generous in giving to others in need. Fantastic work and maybe we can double our goal next year. Also, a big thank you to Mrs. Smith and the Service Club for putting this together!
